Those words (actually the whole shrink's office rant from Alice's Restaurant) came to mind when I heard the sad news about the lonesome death of 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford.
OK... Death Penalty bad. I get that. Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord. I get that.
On the other hand, think of this little girl's last memory: a piece of crap like John Couey raping her and then ending her bright, little life.
And now WE're going to pick up the tab for sustaining HIS pathetic life?
Didn't a little voice speak to you, when you found out that sweet little girl
Jessica Lunsford was raped and murdered by white trash registered sex offender
John Evander Couey (24 arrests for burglary, carrying a concealed weapon and indecent exposure, arrested in Kissimmee on a charge of fondling a child under age 16)?
Didn't something in you say, well, he confessed, why not just take him out behind the barn and shoot him?
It did me. I'm a new dad, and I can't even begin to think of being in Papa Lunsford's shoes.
"His Judgement Cometh And That Right Soon."
I don't think I'd wanna wait for that.
I'm conflicted, confused, but a nice guy, really...
Can someone clarify why Couey should be allowed (at an estimated cost to us of $700,000 or so if he lives until 80; that's excluding the cost to the court system) to live ?
